Our Social Circle
OK, we confess. We are busy. Between raising a family and owning our own business we don’t have time to do much in terms of entertaining. We have found that our close circle of friends are a quirky and fun group of business owners. So, when we “met” Betz, founder of Joplin Designz, on facebook (we thought our brides and party clients would LOVE her work) we knew she sounded fun and we definitely wanted to do a shoot. Clearly we needed cupcakes and Betz’s friend Karie just so happens to own Wanna Cupcake.
A Biz is Born
So how did these two power house ladies meet? It turns out their kids met at Target and a friendship was made. When Karie needed a cupcake stand for a wedding her good friend got crafty and made her first stand on a tiny budget. From there Betz, an investment banker turned entrepreneur, opened Joplin Designz on ETSY last fall and has been swamped with orders since day one. Brides, want to be Martha’s, and cupcakeries from all points clamor for her one of a kind designs. She uses FDA approved materials so her stands are safe for delicious treats.
Sweet Delish Wanna Cupcake
Speaking of delish, Karie, a mama who loves to bake, wanted to be her own boss. Last fall she and her husband formed Wanna Cupcake. She started out making cupcakes for birthday parties and smaller events – all the while building quite the reputation. She sells out of cupcakes at the local farmer’s market on a regular basis. She is now in demand for weddings and doesn’t have a problem cranking out 500 cupcakes. Her most popular flavors are Red Velvet and Lemon Zest and her personal favorite is a toss up between 24Carrot & Strawberry Lemonade. So, you Wanna Cupcake? They are served at local venues including several Forza locations.
Friends with Benefits
Our photo shoot with these two ladies turned into quite a night. Our kids were in tow and Betz was just finishing the cake pop stand when we arrived. Her husband Jon ordered pizza and our kids played the night away. We got to know the whole crew. We learned these gals are both having fun doing what they love and that they are incredibly warm and hilarious. They take their customer satisfaction seriously and both work so hard at what they do best.
Karie sent us home with oodles of cake pops (that somehow stayed fresh for 5 days – musta been that insanely good outer chocolate coating), and 7 dozen – yes, you read right – cupcakes. We have to say we are unsure just how exactly she piled that much icing on them. YUM. We were able to share with a local nonprofit staff and its clients, neighbors and a few Firstlight Photography clients.
